More Obamacare Casualties

Posted on January 16, 2013. Filed under: Politics |

A hospital in Windber, PA (about 60 miles SE of Pittsburgh) has announced that after March 31, it will stop delivering babies.

Hospital officials say the population of women of child-bearing age is dropping and that the number of births the hospital would be called upon to perform isn’t enough for it to provide the service in the face of lower reimbursements under the federal Affordable Care Act.

The hospital delivered about 200 babies each year since restarting its obstetrics program in 2005.

Officials aren’t sure how many jobs will be lost.
Lower reimbursements only result in more doctors/hospitals not taking government backed payments. As more reject it, the rest of us are left to pile onto the remaining doctors who do, overburdening them and creating rationing of healthcare in the process.

In more Obamacare news, the Health Insurance lobby is pushing for more penalties for those who choose to take the tax penalty instead of signing up for insurance right away. These penalties are collectively known as the “mandate plus”, and are a series of “late enrollment fees” for those who don’t sign up for the first two years.

Now, if you are one of those whose hours are being cut back to less than 30 hours, it isn’t your employer who is on the hook for the penalties, it’s you.

Just like most legislation, lawmakers are in such a hurry to get it passed that they never think it all the way through. What are the possible consequences? What could possibly happen?

What could possibly happen is that you saddle the American people with more and more taxes and fees, bankrupting not just the country, but the citizens as well.
