Danny Glover Makes the Lunatic Fringe Look Normal
According to Danny Glover (speaking at Texas A&M), the Second Amendment came into being to suppress slave revolts, and to give people the right to kill Indians.
“I don’t know if you know the genesis of the right to bear arms,” he said. “The Second Amendment comes from the right to protect themselves from slave revolts, and from uprisings by Native Americans.”
“A revolt from people who were stolen from their land or revolt from people whose land was stolen from, that’s what the genesis of the second amendment is,” he continued.
Seems that he has forgotten that it was the US government, who doesn’t need a Second Amendment, that killed most of the Indians.
I’ve studied a lot of history, and I don’t recall any slave revolts, especially in the north where slavery had already been outlawed by most of those states prior to the Constitution. Most slaves didn’t stick around long enough to revolt, they just ran (and good for them!).
However, it was John Brown who took over a Federal arsenal at Harper’s Ferry, Virginia with the idea of arming the slaves and leading a revolt.
It never materialized.
