Obamacare: Will it Collapse Due to Lack of Participation?
We are now seven months from 2014, the year we are all required to have health insurance.
A shocking survey from InsuranceQuotes.com shows that nearly 2/3 of respondents who currently don’t have health insurance don’t know if they will have it as required under Obamacare.
If these people choose not to participate (and I may be one of them), the whole thing could completely unravel, as the money to pay for insurance subsidies will not be there as planned.
The fines imposed by the IRS may be cheaper than the insurance.
This is where the disconnect is happening between Obamacare and the country.
A lot of people are uncomfortable with the IRS being the enforcement arm of Obamacare.
That’s what makes it government controlled healthcare. Proponents of Obamacare are attempting to blur the distinction between government controlled healthcare and government run healthcare. The two are not the same. When the IRS is involved to enforce that people buy their required insurance, that’s government control.
Looking over my options for healthcare, I find that I must purchase insurance that carries maternity and newborn care.
I’m in my mid-40’s. My wife and I don’t have any children, and I don’t plan on getting pregnant anytime soon, so why should I have to pay for that?
In addition, according to this Money article, families making up to $94k a year will have a percentage of their insurance subsidized by the government. Do people making that much money really need the government to pay for part of it? I know kids are expensive, but come on. $94k is suddenly poor folk?
What happens if the whole thing collapses due to lack of participation? I’m not saying that it will, but what happens if it does?
What happens if premiums explode? Will more people opt to pay the fines?
I’m not optimistic about anything controlled by the government. As we have seen, everything is politicized, and consequences targeted towards the population. The Sequester cuts were not aimed at waste and fraud in the government. Instead, the White House was closed to the public. Air travel was delayed. the National Parks were shut.
The point was that if Congress did not give the President what he wanted, the people would suffer.
Abraham Lincoln once said of government
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves — in their separate, and individual capacities.
We have seen in the last 20 years that government really is not capable of doing much at all. They have allowed our road system, bridges and electrical grid to deteriorate. Instead of doing those things that we need to have done, the government has taken up the task of giving our money away, be it to foreign nations or to those who have not earned it.
And yet we allow this entity to now control our healthcare.
